New Years Eve in Krakow

A while ago some friends asked me, if I wanted to join them on a road trip to Krakow, Poland, for new years eve. By that time I thought I would be long gone for my trip around the world. But guess what, I was wrong. My first flight would be on January, 19th, so short before Christmas I asked them, if they had a seat left. At first they didn’t, but a few days later they told me, that they were able to get a larger rental car and I could join them. Hurray! ;)

They all booked a nice 4 star hotel, which was way to expensive for me, so I started looking for hostels. I found a good one and booked. But a few days before the departure, one of the friends of a friend got ill and canceled. But he had already paid his hotel room and couldn’t get a refund. So they offered me to stay in his room for free. And who would choose the hostel over a free 4 star hotel? Right, no one; so of cause I took the free room.

So after a 10 hour drive we finally arrived in Krakow and checked in. The hotel was very nice, but we just put on some warmer cloth and started walking downtown. When we arrived at the marked place, there was already a big party going on, with lots and lots of people and a quiet nice laser show.

The music however, was nothing spectacular, but not bad either. The fireworks, at 12 o’clock, on the other site was pretty bad. It only lasted for about 3-5 minutes and was behind a few houses, so you couldn’t see much of it.

So while new years eve in Krakow wasn’t anything special and not worth the long drive from Frankfurt, it was still a lot of fun, because I was with my friends and Krakow itself is just an AMAZING city!

On the next day we explored more of the really nice old town, and went to a pretty cool night club later. While the prices weren’t much different from Germany, so location was great. As the city is very old and they can’t put up new buildings, most night clubs are in the cellars. So there isn’t a big dance floor but 2-3 smaller ones with different music in each one and a small bar in most of them.

Overall I had a very great time. Thanks guys!
